I read something interesting today: Dining out is the No. 1 item that Americans blow their budgets on, according to the Principal Financial Group’s annual Financial Well Being Index, which was released in December 2016. The company surveyed more than 1,100 employed American adults.
Besides your Budget – eating out has these effects:
- tend to consume 200 more calories than when they eat at home
- eat more or eat higher calorie foods
- obesity and higher body fat
And the problem is getting worse. While 22% of Americans blew their budgets on dining out in 2014, this year, 25% did so.
In part, hectic lifestyles can lead us to dine out and it’s a pleasure we give ourselves rather than cooking home.
So as we look at our spending habits and our health in 2017, we might want to review our budgets for dining out.
Reviewing our budgets for dining out may also help us keep our weight under control so it is win-win (or sure-lose)!
